Brixton Brewery x Darco Recordings Present: Darchives
April 18, 2023
We’ve joined forces with Darco Recordings to celebrate heritage, culture, and community. Darco Recordings was founded in 2021 by Darcus Beese & Elvin Smith.
Co-Founder of DARCO Recordings Darcus Beese is responsible for the careers of some of the UK’s biggest artists from Amy Winehouse, Sugababes, Mumford & Sons, Disclosure and Florence & The Machine. He was born into a life of meaningful protest through his father, the fiercely intelligent and revolutionary figure Darcus Howe, exposing him to the power of free-speech and the importance of individuality in the modern world. His father helped communities stand up for their rights, and these actions were rewarded with a blue plaque on Railton Road.

The collaboration will kick off with a private launch party, headlined by UK garage legend WOOKIE, to present the ‘DARCHIVES’ exhibition. At the Taproom we will present personal collections and archive imagery that tell influential stories of both the musical and civil rights legacies rooted in Brixton and beyond - honouring Darcus Howe, Barbara Beese and the history of Railton Road in the process.
The exhibition will be open to the public from Wednesday 19th to Saturday 22nd April with a closing party on the Saturday from 3pm featuring daytime vinyl-only sets plus an evening session and live show from some DARCO special guests.
For the occasion, we have launched RAILTON LAGER inspired by the Brixton home of Darcus’ father. Available now via our webshop. There are three can designs, each featuring legendary protest pictures of Darcus Howe and Beese. Other key features include 9 stripes commemorating the mangrove 9, DARCO’s manifesto ‘for the people, all the people’ and a QR code allowing people to access the exclusive Darco playlist made for this special series of events. All profits will go to Brixton Soup Kitchen in supporting their work for the local community.
Come experience this iconic and never seen before exhibition.
