Things to Do in Brixton | A Local Guide
August 13, 2026
There’s a lot to love about Brixton. Food from around the world, legendary music venues, bustling markets, colourful streets and an amazing mix of people all make it a pretty special place to spend a day.
It’s also the place that inspired Brixton Brewery, from the names of our beers to the flavours and stories behind them. So, whether it’s your first time here or you’re looking for an excuse to come back, here are a few of our favourite ways to get a taste of Brixton.
Start in Brixton Village & Market Row
A trip to Brixton wouldn’t feel quite right without a wander through Brixton Village and Market Row.
Just around the corner from the station, the covered markets are full of independent restaurants, cafés, bars, shops and traditional market traders. There’s food from all over the world, plenty to browse and usually something tempting you to stop for just a little longer.
A few dishes that keep us coming back are the birria tacos from Two Twin Tacos, authentic Japanese okonomiyaki from OKAN and the truly unmissable cod fish fritters from Fish Wings & Tings.
Our recommendation is not to plan this bit too much. Come hungry, have a wander and see what takes your fancy.

Wander Through Electric Avenue
From Brixton Village, carry on towards Electric Avenue, one of the most recognisable streets in the neighbourhood.
Built in the 1880s, it was the first market street in the country to be lit by electricity, but it’s the energy of the street today that we love most. Its shops, traders and colourful fruit and veg stalls have become a familiar part of everyday Brixton.
They’ve inspired us too. The tropical fruit stalls of Electric Avenue were the starting point for our Electric Tropical Lager, brewed with mango, pineapple and a hint of ginger.

See What’s On at The Ritzy
Carry on towards Brixton Oval and you’ll find The Ritzy, one of Brixton’s best-loved landmarks.
Alongside its five cinema screens, Upstairs at the Ritzy has its own programme of live music, DJs, comedy, quizzes and events, so there’s often more going on than just the latest films.
It’s always worth checking what’s on while you’re planning your day, particularly if the Great British weather isn’t playing along.
Come and See Us at Brixton Brewery
Of course, we’d love to welcome you into our little corner of Brixton too.
Our Brixton Brewery Tour + Tasting takes you behind the scenes at our brewery on Brixton Station Road, where one of our resident beer and Brixton experts will show you around, talk you through how our beers are made and share some of the stories behind them.
You’ll have a cold welcome can in hand for the tour before sitting down for a guided tasting of four Brixton beers. We’ll also send you off with our BB Guide to Brixton, ready for the rest of your day.

Stay for a Pint at the Taproom
And once you’ve finished the tour, you don’t have to go far.
Our Taproom is right next door, pouring our freshest Brixton brews alongside familiar favourites and taproom exclusives. There are plenty of non-beer options behind the bar too.
If you’re hungry, pick something up from one of the brilliant food spots nearby and bring it in with you. Brixton Village is only a few minutes away, so there’s plenty to choose from.
You don’t need to be joining a tour either. If you’re passing through Brixton and fancy a fresh pint, come in and say hello.

Grab a Pint at One of Our Locals
Wherever you end up, there’s a good chance a fresh Brixton pint won’t be too far away. There are plenty of great pubs within walking distance of the Taproom. A few of our local favourites include The Trinity Arms, The Duke of Edinburgh, The White Horse, Crown & Anchor and The Cambria. Pick one, settle in for a pint and carry on exploring from there.
Make Time for Some Live Music
Music is woven into Brixton, and few places represent that quite like O2 Academy Brixton.
The venue has welcomed artists and music fans to the neighbourhood for decades, and a night at the Academy is a pretty good reason to turn your visit into a full Brixton day out.
If you’re coming down for a gig, arrive early. Have a wander through the market, find somewhere for dinner and fit in a pint before heading over to the show.

Explore Windrush Square and Brixton’s Street Art
It’s worth leaving some time in your day simply to wander.
Windrush Square sits at the heart of Brixton and is an important part of the neighbourhood’s history. Around it, you’ll find murals, architecture and public art that tell different parts of Brixton’s story.
One of the best known is Jimmy C’s mural of Brixton-born David Bowie opposite the Underground station, but keep looking as you walk and you’ll find plenty more.
It’s this mix of history, music, creativity, food and everyday life that makes Brixton feel like Brixton.
Make a Day of It
There’s no single right way to spend a day here, and that’s part of the fun.
Start with a wander through Brixton Village and Electric Avenue, find somewhere that takes your fancy for lunch, then join us for a Tour & Tasting in the afternoon.
Afterwards, stay for a pint at the Taproom before heading back out. You might have tickets for a gig, fancy dinner at Pop Brixton or simply want to keep exploring.
However you spend it, leave yourself a little room for the unexpected. There’s usually something happening in Brixton.
